The beginning of new school year and Agiasmos Service at the oldest school of the Greek Diaspora

The oldest school of the Greek Diaspora is located in Vienna, Austria and, like every year, this year also, the first bell “rang” in an atmosphere of joy and emotion, in the presence of the members of the school community.

In the Church of the Holy Trinity in Vienna, there were Greek children who had the opportunity to exchange wishes for another constructive school year at the Greek National School in Vienna, which has been operating without interruption since 1804 and has evolved as a beacon of Hellenism, through which children of the Diaspora come into contact with the values and tradition of our homeland.

In the historic church of the Holy Trinity in Vienna, the Agiasmos Service was conducted by His Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria, who is also the Director of the School. His Eminence, in addition to the usual wishes for the new school year, did not fail to give some useful advice to parents.

The Greek National School of Vienna

In 1804, following a court decree issued by the Emperor Francis II, the Greek National School of Vienna was founded and nowadays it has become a supplementary school for both preschool, primary and secondary education. Through attending classes and participating in activities, the children come into daily contact with elements of Greek culture, maintaining strong ties with the homeland.

The Greek National School of Vienna is part of the system of the Ministry of Education, while primary and secondary education classes operate.
