Second group of Ukrainian children to be hosted in summer camps arrive in Greece
A second group of 140 Ukrainian children, aged 6-15, who will be hosted in Greek summer camps in northern Greece, arrived at the Greece-Bulgaria border station of Promachonas on Thursday night, it was reported on Friday.
Accompanied by 28 adults, the children arrived in Greece from the Ukrainian city of Bucha, escorted by the Greek police. They will be hosted in summer camps at Chalkidiki (at Metamorfosi, Pefkochori and Nea Skioni), at Asprovalta in Thessaloniki and at Orfani in Kavala. Greece’s union of privately held camps (Panhellenic Union of Private Initiative Camp Operators) offered to host the children.
At least 600 childen in total will be hosted in Greek summer camps in the month of August.
The first group of 117 Ukrainian children had arrived in Athens and Thessaloniki on August 5, and they will depart for Ukraine on Sunday, while a third group is expected on August 17.
Helping coordinate the plan is the International Organization for Migration, in collaboration with Deputy Migration & Asylum Minister Sofia Voultepsi and Ukrainian Ambassador Sergii Shutenko.
