Mykonos implements traffic ban as severe weather strikes Cyclades

A ban on vehicle movement has been imposed on the island of Mykonos as severe weather continues to affect the Cyclades.
The Civil Protection Service issued an emergency alert shortly before 7 p.m., banning all vehicle movement except for emergency services due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. “Travel is prohibited due to severe weather conditions,” the alert said.
On Mykonos, flooding has caused significant disruption, particularly in the Tourlos and Marathi areas. Local authorities responded to several incidents of people being trapped by rising waters. “Everyone is safe,” officials said. Emergency crews are working to clear flooded areas and restore access.
In Paros, heavy storms caused widespread flooding, especially in Naoussa and Kolymbithres. Firefighters rescued two people trapped in vehicles and brought 13 others to safety. “The situation is particularly difficult along the Parikia-Naoussa road,” said Mayor Konstantinos Bizas, adding that the Naoussa River had overflowed and swept away cars near a bridge. Paros has imposed a total traffic ban on all roads on the island.
Meanwhile, schools on Rhodes will remain closed on Tuesday due to the severe weather forecast, Mayor Alexandros Koliadis announced. The closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers and families.
