Kefalogiannis on severe weather: Heightened vigilance required in the Dodecanese, Eastern Aegean Islands, and Crete

The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ioannis Kefalogiannis, in an interview with SKAI 100.3 FM, referred to the response to the ongoing severe weather.

“Already on Sunday we had issued a risk weather bulletin regarding Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday the phenomenon hit mainly the islands of Paros and Mykonos. In the evening hours it moved to the east, so we also issued a 112 which is in force for the islands of the East Aegean, Aegean,”Kefalogiannis stressed adding that a 112 alert was issued for the Dodecanese, calling for increased vigilance from Tuesday until Wednesday around noon. He also noted that the 112 alert remains in force in Crete.

Regarding the preparation for the fire season, he said that from 2025 it starts with 15,500 permanent and 2,500 seasonal employees. “Three years ago, the corresponding number was about 13,000 permanent and 2,500 seasonal; that is, 15,500 employees. We have an increase, roughly, of 20 per cent in the last three years. So this shows a continued concern of the state to strengthen the Fire Service in numbers,” he said.
