Greek PM Mitsotakis’ Independence Day message focuses on unity and economic strength

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasised the importance of national unity and economic strength in his Independence Day message following the military parade at Syntagma Square.

“What seemed impossible to many on March 25, 1821, became reality nine years later. On national holidays like today, it is worth reflecting on our nation’s turbulent journey over these 204 years,” Mitsotakis said, highlighting that Greeks have always succeeded when united.

“We learn from our triumphs but also from our setbacks – and we must always remember that Greeks prevailed when they stood together, set high goals, and fought as one to achieve them,” he added.

Mitsotakis also stressed that, in these challenging times, economic prosperity is the foundation of social solidarity and a strong national defense.

“Today, we are living in an era of great uncertainty, with many of the certainties we took for granted in past decades now being challenged,” he said.

“That is why the path to progress requires specific conditions: economic prosperity that ensures social cohesion and provides the resources to strengthen our Armed Forces, safeguarding our national independence,” Mitsotakis added, emphasising that self-awareness and the pursuit of truth are equally essential.
