Greek PM: All of Hellenism mourns the loss of Archbishop Anastasios
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his profound sorrow over the passing of Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres, and All Albania, highlighting his invaluable contributions to Orthodoxy.
In his statement, the Prime Minister said, “I express my deep grief over the loss of Archbishop Anastasios. His contributions to Orthodoxy are immeasurable, leaving an indelible mark not only on our neighboring country but in every corner of the world where Hellenism thrives. While his voice may have been silenced, it will forever echo messages of life and peaceful coexistence.”
He continued, “Anastasios was both a spiritual leader and a tireless servant of humanity and human rights. He was a supporter of African children, an ally of Greek students resisting dictatorship, and, of course, a pioneer of the Church in Albania. As the first Archbishop there, he became a champion of our national expatriates’ interests.
“I had the privilege of meeting and collaborating with this Hierarch, who combined the dynamism of faith with natural grace, national duty with altruism. He was a bridge of understanding between two nations, a set of qualities that deepens our mourning but also makes his legacy even more valuable.”
Prime Minister Mitsotakis emphasised the immense impact of Archbishop Anastasios, stating, “Today, expatriates in Albania, our homeland, and all of Hellenism mourn his loss. Yet, from tomorrow, they will draw inspiration from his radiant actions and timeless wisdom. As he often said, ‘From heart to heart, carry the light of hope.’”
He concluded, “May his memory be eternal—undying and creative.”
