The 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church was elected in the fourth ballot of cardinals on the afternoon of Thursday, 8 May 2025, and the white smoke that came out of the chimney of the Sistine Chapel certifies that he has accepted his election and that he has chosen the new name he will use as pontiff.
