Victoria COVID cases on Wednesday surge again to seventh day of more than 1000

Victoria has recorded its seventh day straight of more than 1000 COVID-19 and more than 10 deaths.

On Wednesday, the health department confirmed there had been 1420 cases in the 24 hours until midnight.

There were also eleven COVID-related deaths.

It is the highest number of Victorian deaths for the current outbreak.

On Tuesday, 36,542 doses of the vaccine were administered and Victoria now has 14,410 active cases of the virus.

This comes a day after Victoria set a grim new national record, surpassing the highest total of daily virus cases in New South Wales to have the biggest jump ever.

There were 1763 cases recorded in the state on Tuesday, 1377 on Monday, 1220 on Sunday and 1488 on Saturday.

City of Latrobe ends lockdown
The City of Latrobe has exited its snap lockdown as planned after a long weekend party sparked a COVID-19 outbreak.

The local council area, including the towns of Traralgon, Morwell and Moe, was told it was going into a lockdown late last Tuesday after its number of active cases grew to 18.

The lockdown lasted for seven days and on Tuesday at 11.59pm, the area’s restrictions fell in line with the rest of regional Victoria that is not in lockdown.

The outbreak was sparked after a household gathering took place over the long weekend.
