The Governor-General of Australia visits the Phanar

On Tuesday, 22 April 2025, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew received the Governor-General of Australia and Representative of the Royal Crown, Her Excellency Sam Mostyn, with her entourage.

His All-Holiness and the Governor-General had the opportunity to discuss, in a cordial atmosphere, the work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and in particular the contribution of his Holy Archdiocese in Australia. Special reference was also made to the passing away of the Primate of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, whose work and contribution they both praised.

The meeting was also attended by the Governor-General’s husband, Mr. Simeon Beckett SC, the Australian Ambassador to Ankara, His Excellency Miles Armitage, the Consul General in Constantinople, Mr. Tony Huber, and members of Ms. Mostyn’s staff, while from the Patriarchate, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, and His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos of Selyvria, as well as the Grand Ecclesiarch Archimandrite Aetios, Director of the Personal Patriarchal Office.
