Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrives in Athens

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived yesterday, Wednesday, 7 May 2025, for a five-day visit to Athens, in the context of which, next Sunday, he will attend the Divine Liturgy that will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Nicholas of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in Kolonaki, co-presided over by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the construction of the Church by The Merciful Company of Athens.
Yesterday, at 7:00 pm, His All-Holiness will attend the ceremony of conferring an honorary doctorate on His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, by the Departments of Theology and Social Theology and Religious Studies of the School of Theology of the University of Athens.
On Thursday morning, His All-Holiness will have a meeting with the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the Maximos Mansion, and in the afternoon he will go to the Museum of “Contemporary Art” of the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation, where an event will be held in his honour.
On Friday morning, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Çağatay Erciyes, will host a breakfast in honour of His All-Holiness, at the Embassy residence, and then the Ecumenical Patriarch will celebrate a Trisagion at the graves of the late Archons of the Great Church of Christ, Aristidis Panotis, Theologian, and Alexandros Alexandris, Ambassador. Subsequently, he will celebrate a Trisagion for the Fallen Constantinopolitans during World War II at the Monument dedicated to them in Paleo Faliro.
The Patriarchal Entourage consists of Their Eminences, Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, and Metropolitan Ioakeim of Bursa, the Grand Ecclesiarch Archimandrite Aetios, Director of the Personal Patriarchal Office, and Grand Archdeacon, Father Alexandros, Patriarchal Deacon, Father Photios Poulopoulos, Professor, Mr. Konstantinos Delikostantis, Director of the First Patriarchal Office, Mr. Nikolaos-Georgios Papachristou, Director of the Press and Communications Office of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and Mr. Marios Tarinas, Patriarchal employee.
His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos of Selyvria, was appointed Commissioner during the Patriarch’s absence, and he accompanied him to the Airport in Constantinople, together with the Grand Protosyncellus Archimandrite Gregorios.
