The feast of St. Athanasios the Athonite in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Holy Metropolis of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the blessing of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and all Africa, festively celebrated the memory of Saint Athanasios the Athonite.

On the eve of the feast, at the Holy Monastery and Theological School of the same name, His Eminence Metropolitan Theodosios of Kinshasa, presided over the Vespers service and elevated Hieromonk Fr. Ioannis to Archimandrite and Fr. Samuel to Protopresbyter, the vicar of the parish of Saint Barbara. The Divine Word was preached by the Protosyncellus Archimandrite Gerasimos.

On the morning of the feast, His Eminence Metropolitan Theodosios presided again, assisted by priests and deacons of the Metropolis, while the Divine Word was preached by the Abbot of the Monastery, Archimandrite Chrysostomos. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the Holy Icon of Saint Athanasios the Athonite was taken in procession around the courtyard of the Theological School.

Following this, in the function hall, the students presented a wonderful celebration with a theatrical performance, referring to the miracle of the Virgin Mary to Saint Athanasios the Athonite. Through this play, they particularly emphasised the virtues of faith, hope, prayer and trust in God and the Virgin Mary.

In the end, the Metropolitan conveyed to everyone the warm wishes and blessings of the Patriarch of love, Theodore II, whose kind reputation and love for all sealed the event.
