SOUMELA AND THE MAGIC KEMENCHE – COMING SOON FROM ST ANDREW’S ORTHODOX PRESS

In order to communicate holy Orthodoxy, Hellenic culture and Romiosyne to the next generation, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia has made known his concern that St Andrew’s Orthodox Press publish children’s books. With this in mind, our upcoming book—which is directed to older children and adolescents but can also be enjoyed by adults—addresses all of these themes. ‘Soumela and the Magic Kemenche’ by Dean Kalimnios (a Melbourne-based writer, journalist, and solicitor) is a breathtaking story about a young girl, Soumela, who is protected by the musical notes of a magic kemenche, which is a Pontian lyra, as she escapes perilous circumstances to journey to safety under the guidance of important saints associated with the region. (You will have to pick up a copy to see who they are!) The book is bilingual, in Modern Greek and English. It is masterfully illustrated by Melbourne-based graphic artist Stephanos Eleftheriadis, and will be published soon by St Andrew’s Orthodox Press.
