With special brilliance and solemnity, in the presence of thousands of believers and high representatives of the political leaderships of Australia and Greece, The radiant and brilliant Resurrection of the Lord was celebrated in Sydney’s suburb of Kogarah, in the beautiful Greek Orthodox Church dedicated to the highest event of the triumph of life over death.
The Service of the Resurrection and the solemn Divine Liturgy were presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, accompanied by His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis and His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia.
For the second consecutive year, the Resurrection Service was attended by the Prime Minister of Australia Mr Scott Morrison, while the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs Lina Mendoni, was present with Greek expatriates of Sydney, for the “Feast of all Feasts”.
Both guests of honour, shortly before the joyful and hopeful message was heard: “Christ is risen from the dead…”, sent warm messages to the person of the Archbishop, the holy Clergy and the faithful who had flooded the area in front of Holy Church of the Resurrection of Christ, Kogarah, NSW.
This was preceded by the short resurrectional greeting of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, with the central message that “the Resurrection becomes a fact of faith that invites us to an existential transcendence”.
