Radiant celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection in Sydney, Australia

With special brilliance and solemnity, in the presence of thousands of believers and high representatives of the political leaderships of Australia and Greece, The radiant and brilliant Resurrection of the Lord was celebrated in Sydney’s suburb of Kogarah, in the beautiful Greek Orthodox Church dedicated to the highest event of the triumph of life over death.

The Service of the Resurrection and the solemn Divine Liturgy were presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, accompanied by His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis and His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia.

For the second consecutive year, the Resurrection Service was attended by the Prime Minister of Australia Mr Scott Morrison, while the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs Lina Mendoni, was present with Greek expatriates of Sydney, for the “Feast of all Feasts”.

Both guests of honour, shortly before the joyful and hopeful message was heard: “Christ is risen from the dead…”, sent warm messages to the person of the Archbishop, the holy Clergy and the faithful who had flooded the area in front of Holy Church of the Resurrection of Christ, Kogarah, NSW.

This was preceded by the short resurrectional greeting of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, with the central message that “the Resurrection becomes a fact of faith that invites us to an existential transcendence”.

Afterwards, His Eminence, after warmly thanking the Australian Prime Minister and the Greek Minister of Culture for their honorary presence, wished everyone many years, bearing light and full of joy and happiness.

“May God bless your families. May God bless our young people. May God bless the Hellenism of the fifth continent “, he said, among other things, addressing the faithful, and exclaimed with them:” Long live Greece! Long live Australia! Long live our Church! “

The Archbishop also conveyed the paternal wishes and patriarchal blessings of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, reminding that His All-Holiness “always prays for Australia and for our Holy Archdiocese”.

It is also worth noting that His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, together with the Minister of Culture of Greece, Mrs Lina Mendoni, during their entrance to the Holy Church lit a candle for the tested people of Ukraine, praying that this Golgotha, which Ukraine ascends after the Russian invasion, will end soon and that they will experience the joy of the Resurrection, with peace prevailing in their blessed homeland.

It is noted that the Service of the Resurrection was also attended by the wife of the Prime Minister of Australia, Mrs Jenny Morrison, Minister David Coleman and MP Linda Burney, the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr Christos Karras,  the Head of the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs of Greece in Australia Mrs Katia Gikiza, as well as the parents of Archbishop Makarios, Emmanuel and Fotini Griniezaki.
