Perth: Festival Celebrations for the Feast Day of St George
On the Sunday of Thomas, the 23 April 2023, the Feast Day of St George the Great Martyr was celebrated with splendour at the Church of St Nektarios in Dianella.
The morning commenced with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy officiated by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea and which was followed by a paschal procession outside the church.
After the Dismissal, His Grace conveyed the paschal blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia to all the faithful. His Grace then invited everyone to partake in the paschal luncheon that took place on the church grounds and that was organised by the Parish of St Nektarios together with the Pontian Brotherhood of St George in WA.
At the luncheon there was live entertainment from Dj Mikonic as well as “Mr Meli” who was selling delicious loukoumades & ice-cream. The Pontian Dance Groups also performed in traditional Pontian costumes.
A cake was also cut for one of the major donors of the Church of St Nektarios, Mr Nicholas Lucas, who recently celebrated his birthday. His Grace, on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, wished Mr. Lucas a very happy birthday and thanked him for his ongoing love and support towards the Church.
Present at the luncheon also were the Athletes from Greece who were in Perth competing in the World Transplant Games.
