Chios: The Feast Day of Saint Isidore in the early Christian basilica, where his tomb is located

Within the period of the Paschal joy, yesterday, 14 May 2025, the feast of St. Isidore the Great Martyr took place in a solemn and luminous atmosphere. The church of Chios and Orthodox Christians throughout the world honoured the shining star of Christ, the strong soldier, the boast and the glory of Egypt, the beginning of the choir of the Martyrs of this myrrh-flowing Island, who subdued the power of Decius and dissolved the deceit of idols.

The feast day services took place in the early Christian basilica of the Saint, where his tomb is located, in the city of Chios, with the co-officiation and concelebration of His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia, and the local Shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Markos of Chios, Psara and Oinousses.

At the end of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, the holy relics of the Saint were taken in procession, initially to Vounaki Square, where a prayer was offered, and then to the Metropolitan Church of the city. In his sermon, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia praised the sanctified personality of Saint Isidore and emphasised that we must imitate his courage and bravery against the world-powers and modern idols that lead the human person to unfreedom and enslavement.
