NSW records 646 new local COVID-19 cases and 11 more deaths

New South Wales has recorded 646 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases and 11 further deaths.

The new deaths reported in the 24 hours to 8pm Thursday include two women and nine men aged in between their 50s and 80s. Seven people were not vaccinated, three had received one vaccine dose and one had received both doses.

There are now 865 COVID-19 patients in hospital in NSW, with 170 in intensive care

The numbers were outlined by Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant via livestream on Friday morning.

The state is set to begin reopening from Monday, with new premier Dominic Perrottet announcing more relaxed rules than his predecessor Gladys Berejiklian.

The roadmap changes drew concern from the Australian Medical Association, who said on Thursday it was “very concerned” and that it looked as if there had been a shift in approach to the pandemic.
