Inspections began in the village of Voutes in Heraklion, Crete

Inspections in the village of Voutes in Heraklion, Crete, began early on Monday, following large rifts that have appeared in the area’s roads and buildings due to subsidence.

A drone is flying in the area, in order to capture the location of the cracks, while during the day, equipment and machines will be added to the inspections for recording and checking data.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held in the area in the presence of the chairman of the Permanent Special Scientific Committee for Seismic Risk Assessment, Professor Efthymios Lekkas, as well as the Mayor of Heraklion Alexis Kalokairinos, the Deputy Governor of the Heraklion Regional Administration Nikos Syrigonakis, the deputy mayors Giorgos Sisamakis and Manolis Chairetis, the chairman of Voutes and members of the Local Council.

According to the municipality of Heraklion, a request will be submitted to the Directorate for the Restoration of the Effects of Natural Disasters in order for the Directorate’s engineers to arrive in the area, to conduct autopsies and proceed with the official characterisation of buildings.

In addition, as it became known, a request will be made through the Heraklion Regional Office of the Region of Crete, to declare the area in a state of emergency.
