Holy Diocese of Chora: The Sacrament of Holy Unction on Great and Holy Wednesday at the Church of St Paraskevi, St Albans

In a reverent atmosphere, the Service of Holy Unction, presided over by His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, was held on Great and Holy Wednesday afternoon, at the Church of Saint Paraskevi in St Albans, in the Holy Diocese of Chora.

His Grace conveyed to the faithful the paternal wishes and love of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

In his short sermon, His Grace referred to the profound spiritual meaning of the sacrament of Holy Unction, which concerns not only physical healing, but mainly spiritual purification and the restoration of the human being’s relationship with God. His Grace reminded us that, as Holy Week culminates, the Church offers us this blessed Service, as a preparation for the solemn entrance into the Resurrection.

“The Holy Unction of the Sick is not only a Sacrament of healing, but also a Sacrament of hope,” he emphasised. “It is the opportunity to leave behind what weighs us down and to walk with purity of soul towards the Lord of Glory.”
