Hellenic President Sakellaropoulou: Strengthening democracy is the defining challenge of our era

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, in her message ahead of the New Year, takes a review of 2024, noting that it was a year with high symbolism as it marks 50 years since the restoration of the Hellenic Republic.

President Sakellaropoulou notes that as our world becomes increasingly complex in the face of political instability and military conflicts, Greece is a pillar of stability and peace in the region.

“The great stakes of our time are the quality of democracy and its strengthening, in spite of those who underestimate and challenge it at its core. Our common denominator, both in terms of values and institutions, must be the basic and unsurpassed principles of our civilization: freedom, equality, and solidarity,” Sakellaropoulou said.
