Greece: Suspected antiquities smuggler arrested
A 36-year-old man was arrested in the town of Mesolongi on Friday for the illegal possession of antiquities which he had attempted to sell on the internet, following an operation of the Cultural Heritage Department of the Thessaloniki Police.
The ancient objects were being kept in a warehouse in Athens.
According to an announcement by the police later in the day, all of the seized artifacts fall under the protective provisions of archaeological legislation.
They include the right part of a marble tombstone, the right-hand side of a marble sculpture of the head of a child, and a marble fragment of what is believed to be a votive offering.
