Ecumenical Patriarchate congratulates newly elected President of Greek Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarchate has sent a congratulatory letter to the newly elected President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis. In the letter, the election of Mr. Kaklamanis, a seasoned politician, is described as “a hopeful event for the political life of Greece, bringing joy also to the Mother Church, which embraces the devout Greek people with affection and heartfelt prayers.”

The Great Church of Christ extended its wishes to the new President of the Hellenic Parliament for “unwavering health, divine inspiration, and strength” to successfully fulfill the “highly responsible and honourable duties entrusted to his political ethos and abilities” by Greece’s National Assembly.

It is recalled that the New Democracy Party MP for Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis was elected as the new president of the Hellenic Parliament on Wednesday, receiving the votes of 247 MPs in a roll-call vote. The remaining 50 of the 297 MPs abstained, casting a vote of ‘present’.

Kaklamanis is the 14th president of the Hellenic Palriament and takes over his duties as the third-highest-ranking official of state from his predecessor Konstantinos Tassoulas.

The former Parliament president resigned following his nomination by Hellenic Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the office of president of the Hellenic Republic.
