Another 18 COVID-19 deaths recorded across NSW and Victoria

Australia has recorded another 18 COVID-19-related deaths, with Victoria and NSW both reporting nine fatalities.

NSW Health reported there were 1,038 people in hospital with the virus, including 39 in intensive care.

Some COVID-19 testing clinics across NSW are closed due to flooding.

Some 56.1 per cent of people in the state have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Among children, 79 per cent of those aged 12-15 years have had two doses, while 48 per cent aged five-to-11 years have had one dose.

In Victoria, the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 dropped overnight by seven to 196 patients.

This includes 32 people in intensive care with three on ventilation.

Active cases in the state have dropped to 38,874.

Tasmania has reported 1,109 new coronavirus cases, a slight increase on the daily figure from 24 hours earlier.

It is the second day in a row the state’s fresh infections have surpassed one thousand, the first time that has occurred in about two and a half weeks.

In the ACT, there were 838 new cases reported, 37 people are in hospital and two intensive care.
