160 sq.m. Greek Flag was erected in the Castle of the Rogoi in Preveza
The Committee “Preveza, History-Culture-Environment” and the Local Community of ‘Nea Kerasounta’, on Sunday, 26 March 2023, organised at the Castle of Rogoi, in Nea Kerasounta of Preveza, an event with the aim of highlighting the personality of the Bishop Iosif of Rogoi and Kozyli and promoting the Castle of Rogoi and its history.
After the Divine Liturgy, a memorial service was held in the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos located in the castle, in memory of Bishop Iosif of Rogoi and Kozyli.
Those present were welcomed and referred to the organisation of the event by the president of the local community of Nea Kerasounta, Mr. Dimitrios Karavasiliou, and the representative of the Preveza History-Culture-Environment Committee, Mr. Tsolis Evangelos.
Afterwards, the former Associate Professor of the University of Ioannina, Mr. Thomas Bakas, made a speech on the topic: “The personality and action of Bishop Iosif of Rogoi and Kozyli”, and Philologist-Archaeologist Chrysostomos Karras referred to the history of the castle, in his speech on the topic: “Castle of Rogoi: from a colony of Ilia, a refuge for refugees”.
Then, the cultural associations that participated in the event and those present, marched in a procession, up to the plateau at the base of the castle, where a 160 sq.m. Greek flag was raised, which was granted by the Committee member Mr. Evangelos Katsibra.
The event closed with songs and dances from Epirus and Pontus, by the members of the participating groups and associations.
The event was attended and addressed by the MP of Preveza of the New Democracy Party, Mr. Stergios Giannakis, the MP for Preveza from the SYRIZA party, Mr. Konstantinos Barkas, the regional governor of Epirus, Mr. Alexandros Kahrimanis, the Mayor of Ziros Mr. Nikolaos Kalantzis, the president of the “Panagia Soumela” Foundation, Mr. Georgios Tanimanidis and the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Pontic Associations, Ms. Christina Sahinidou.
Community presidents, municipal councillors, association and agency presidents, police representatives and a large crowd were also present.
The committee expressed its thanks to the Local Community of Nea Kerasounta and the president Mr. Dimitrios Karavasileiou, to all those who worked for the realisation of the event and of course to the associations and groups that participated and gave life to the event.

Samsounta “Amisos” “, Cultural Association of Nea Sinope “O Diogenes”, Cultural Association of Agios Nikolaos, Association of Agios Thomas, Educational Association of Thesprotikos, Cultural Association of Old Philippiada “Agios Georgios” and Association of Syracuses of Philippiada.
