Visit of Ecumenical Patriarch to the Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, Vathiriakos, Rodopis
The Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, Vathiriakos, which is located about 15 km outside of Komotini, was one of the destinations of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who during the two days of September 7 and 8 made a visit to the Prefecture of Rodopi, on the borders of the Holy Metropolis of Maroneia and Komotini, on the occasion of the presence in the area of the Holy Icon of the Panagia “Axion Esti” from Mount Athos.
On Friday, before his visit to Sapes Rodopi, His All-Holiness arrived at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni Vathiriakos, accompanied among others by the Metropolitan Panteleimon of Maroneia and Komotini, and the Superintendent of Mount Athos, Elder Christophoros Iveritis and the delegation of Holy Fathers.
The Ecumenical Patriarch, after venerating the miraculous icon of Panagia Faneromeni, performed the Agiasmos of the inauguration of the perimeter wall of the Holy Monastery, which was built at the expense of the Archon of The Great Church of Christ and Civil Governor of Mount Athos, Mr. Athanasios Martinos, whom earlier the Holy Metropolis of Maroneia and Komotini had honored with its highest award.
