(VIDEO) Cyprus: 3D virtual restoration of the Church of the Holy Cross, Tochni

The Holy Church of the Holy Cross in the village of Tochni, Cyprus, comes to life virtually, with the initiative of the Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) of Larnaca and the Youth Makerspace Larnaca, using the 3D virtual restoration of ancient monuments.

The announcement of the Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP) states that the goal of this initiative is to bring the public closer to the history of Larnaca, through a more modern approach, where technology and innovation are combined with historical research and the region’s rich history.

The first projects in which this technology was applied concerned the ancient Port of Kition and the Neolithic Settlement of Kalavasos-Tendas, while the new monument that was virtually restored is the impression of the Church of the Holy Cross in Tochni during the 12th – 14th centuries, made in collaboration with the Holy Metropolis of Trimythous.

This Church of the Holy Cross is a Gothic style church which is connected with the passage of Saint Helen from Cyprus and is located opposite the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in the core of the village of Tochni.

It is noted that for the implementation of the project, the knowledge of the scientific team of the Holy Metropolis of Trimythous and other collaborators was utilised. Supporters of the project included the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Department of Antiquities.
