Victoria records 76 new local COVID-19 cases as state awaits lockdown announcement

Victoria recorded 76 new local COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to midnight on Monday.

Forty-five infections were linked to previously announced cases, while the source of the 31 others remains under investigation.

Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said on Monday that he was unsure if the state can reach zero new cases of community transmission in the short term.

“We have to do what is feasible,” Professor Sutton said.

“We are not going to achieve the impossible if it becomes impossible”.

An announcement on the length of the extension of Victoria’s lockdown is expected in the coming days.
