Two-Volume Study on St. Nectarios presented to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia presented His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew with his newly published two-volume study entitled “The Unpublished Correspondence of St. Nectarios of Pentapolis.”

Metropolitan Cleopas travelled to Constantinople at the invitation of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholmew to participate in the celebrations commemorating his 32nd anniversary of election to Orthodox Christianity’s first throne.

Metropolitan Cleopas informed the Patriarch that this latest publication is a continuation of his publications from 2008 and 2019. This new study, which contains 2,289 documents in total, features 1,955 never-before-published letters, which have been made public for the first time.

Moreover, he explained that this study entailed the electronic transcription of St. Nectarios’ correspondence during his tenure as Director of the Rizarios Seminary, as well as numerical and thematic categorisation of this correspondence, which took place from November 2020 to November 2022.

This publication aims to contribute to further familiarising researchers and readers with St. Nectarios as not only a man of God, but with his writing as well. It will benefit the faithful who revere this saint, along with clergymen and theologians, researchers, students of all levels, in addition to readers who will reap the spiritual fruits of his correspondence.

Metropolitan Cleopas gave special mention to His Eminence Metropolitan Agathangelos of Fanarion, Director General of the Church of Greece’s publishing house Apostoliki Diakonia, for his willingness to publish this latest two-volume study, as well as his overall support of the ministry of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s missionary Metropolis in Scandinavia.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew congratulated Metropolitan Cleopas on his work in preparing his latest publication and his decades of work dedicated to St. Nectarios in general. Furthermore, he praised Metropolitan Agathangelos of Fanarion on behalf of the Mother Church for publishing this study, as well as for the multifaceted work he and his colleagues offer through Apostoliki Diakonia.
