Thracian Greeks memorialised
April 6 is officially designated as Thracian Hellenism Day, following a presidential decree issued on 14 January. This comes after a law passed by the Interior Ministry in July 2022. Thracian Greek communities across Greece will commemorate the day for the first time this year, with events to which representatives of Thracian organisations and associations are also invited.
“Though remembrance events have been held, this is now an official memorial honouring our ancestors who were slaughtered or displaced from their homes,” said Aristeidis Chrysopoulos, president of the Panhellenic Federation of Thracian Societies.
He emphasised a broader goal: recognition of the genocide against all Greeks in Asia Minor, including Thracians, Pontians and others.
