The Service of the Lamentations in Canberra

With the Blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew presided over the Holy and Great Friday service,  the service of the Lamentations and the Procession of the Epitaph.

Thousands gathered in the Nation’s Capital to come together in prayer on this significant day of Christianity.

Present were His Excellency the Ambassador of Greece Mr Georgios Papacostas, Colonel Ioannis Fassianos, military attaché from Canberra.

His Grace Bishop Bartholomew spoke about the importance of never forgetting the fact that Christ sacrificed Himself for humanity, something that He did not need to do so. Moreover His Grace emphasised the importance of change, that the time has now come to reflect on ourselves and to love more.

Concluding His Grace Bishop Bartholomew conveyed the love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
