The memory of the Hieromartyr Saint John of Petra, Olympus was celebrated
On Thursday of Bright Week, our Church celebrates the memory of the Holy New Hieromartyr John from the Holy Monastery of Petra Olympus, who was martyred in Naoussa in 1822.
The memory of Saint John was honoured again this year at the Holy Monastery of the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple, in Petra, Olympus.
On Wednesday, 19 April 2023, in the afternoon, the Festive Vespers with the blessing of the Five Loaves took place.
On the main day of the feast, Thursday 20 April 2023, the Paschal Matins, Divine Liturgy and Litany of the Holy Icon of Saint John took place, officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan George of Kitros, Katerini and Platamon.
After the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Metropolitan George, tonsured an employee of the Katerini Hospital, Mr. Nikolaos Kurtis, as a reader, who serves at the chanters stand of the Holy Monastery.
The feast day was attended by many clergymen, brothers of the Holy Monastery, the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of the Holy Forerunner of Skiteos of Veria, Archimandrite Porphyrios Batsaras, The Vicar General of Petra, Protopresbyter Georgios Vetsos, and clergy of the neighbouring Parishes.
During the celebration, many pilgrims came from Katerini, Litochoro and other areas of Pieria, including Pieria MP Savvas Chionidis, employees of the Pieria Antiquities Ephorate, among others.
It should be noted that following the close cooperation of the Holy Metropolis with the General Hospital of Katerini and the Archaeological Services, efforts are being made for the restoration of the historic Holy Church and the orderly conducting of the sacred services, which attract a large number of believers from Pieria and beyond.
For this reason, Metropolitan George thanked the above institutions, while he also congratulated the Abbot of the Holy Monastery, Archimandrite Vasileios Nakas, for the efforts and care he gives for the orderly operation of the Holy Monastery and the service of the pilgrims.
