The Feast Day of the Church of Saint George, Brisbane

With the Blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia,  His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, the newly appointed Archiepiscopal Vicar of Queensland celebrated Matins and the Divine Liturgy at the church of Saint George in Brisbane for its feast day.

In his sermon His Grace spoke about the importance of having a desire to follow Christ, this same desire that Saint George had in his life. Saint George the Great Martyr and Trophy Bearer was made to run with iron sandals that had nails in them and would say to himself  “run towards Christ”.. We too must also run towards Christ at all times, noted Bishop Bartholomew.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a procession was conducted with the holy relics and the Icon where all priests of Brisbane and the Gold Coast took part. A special mention is made to Father Romanos Stergiou from the church of Saint Anna on the Gold Coast and Father John Vesic from the Serbian Orthodox Church in Australia for attending the service.

Following this, Parish Priest of the Church of Saint George, Brisbane, Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Father Dimitri Tsakas then thanked His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis for attending the service and officially welcomed him to Queensland.

His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis then conveyed the love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and wished Father Georgios Papoutsakis a blessed Name Day and thanked him for his decades of service for the local church and thanked the priests of Queensland for their love and support during his time in Queensland.

A Feast Day luncheon was held afterwards where His Grace had the opportunity to converse with the congregation.
