The Feast Day of the Church of Saint Anthony, Sunshine in the Archdiocesan District of Northcote

The Feast Day of Saint Anthony the Great was celebrated with due ecclesiastical splendour in the Archdiocesan District of Northcote.

The centre of the feast day celebrations was the Church of Saint Anthony in the suburb of Sunshine in Melbourne, where on the eve of the Feast Day, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, representing His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, officiated at the Great Vespers Service.

On the main day of the Feast, His Grace Bishop Evmenios officiated at the Matins Service and presided over the Feast Day Divine Liturgy.

Addressing the congregation, His Grace, after conveying the wishes and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, referred to the life of the honoured Saint and particularly to his obedience to the will of God and to the holy Gospel. “When Saint Anthony heard the Gospel for the first time, he was not satisfied with simply admiring the words it contained, but rather he applied them in his life, he put them into practice. This is how we live with Christ, when the Gospel becomes our life”, underlined Bishop Evmenios, among other things.

Finally, His Grace also referred to the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, as well as the upcoming visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in October of this year, urging all believers to actively participate in the anniversary celebrations that will take place, as well as in the events for the reception of the Ecumenical Patriarch during his historic and blessed visit to the fifth continent.
