The Feast Day of Saint Sophrony of Essex in Southern Madagascar
The memory of Saint Sophrony of Essex was celebrated in the Holy Diocese of Toliara and Southern Madagascar, in the Holy Church which is dedicated to the great modern Saint of our Church.
His Grace Bishop Prodromos of Toliara and Southern Madagascar presided over the divine services joined also by clergymen of the local diocese.
“If Mount Athos is the way of sanctification and not the geographical place, then one day in the south of Madagascar we might say that we are also a small Mount Athos”, wrote Bishop Prodromos in his post, expressing the great spiritual joy which is reinforced every time by the figures of Saints that adorn the iconostasis of the church.
“Besides, here stands Saint Silouan the Athonite and his spiritual child, Saint Sophrony, the newly-revealed saints who flourished on the Athos peninsula, here some Christians learn to say the prayer in a foreign language. Here we learn not to look for the saints of our time, but to try to become one of them. If only one succeeds, may they pull us along with them”, concludes the post of His Grace Bishop Prodromos of Toliara and Southern Madagascar.
