The Feast Day of Saint George at the Rotunda, Thessaloniki

The Thessalonians celebrated the memory of the Holy Great Martyr George the Trophy-Bearer with particular splendour, on the Wednesday of Bright Week, 23 April 2025, in the Rotunda Church of Saint George in the centre of the city, near the Arch of Galerius.
A large number of believers arrived early in the morning to attend the Feast Day Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, which was presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, with the participation of the clergy of the Metropolis, while His Eminence Metropolitan Damaskinos of Velestino, also attended the Divine Liturgy.
Metropolitan Philotheos preached the holy sermon, referring to the person of the celebrated Saint of our Church, as well as to the gospel passage of the day (John 1:35-52), on the occasion of the phrase “We have found the Messiah” (John 1:42).
Before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence thanked the congregation in attendance, which flooded the Holy Church from early on, led by the Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia-Thrace) Mr. Konstantinos Gioulekas and the Member of Parliament Mr. Stratos Simopoulos, and then wished every person who bears the name of the Saint, a blessed Name Day.
Metropolitan Philotheos also extended special wishes to the celebrating concelebrating clergy, Fr. George Vletsis, who serves at the Monastery of Latomos (Monastery of St. David), and Fr. George Cheilas, Parish Priest of the Pilgrimage Church of the Wisdom of God and responsible priest of the Church of St. George (Rotunda).
