The Ecumenical Patriarch shortly after his arrival in his special homeland, on the island of Imvros, venerated at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos on the island’s capital, where he was ordained a deacon 61 years ago, on August 13.

Earlier, His All-Holiness was welcomed at the port of the island by Metropolitans Kyrillos of Moschonisi, Chrysostomos of Myra and Kyrillos of of Imvros and Tenedos, as well as clergy of the island, but also from abroad, as well as a multitude of Imbrians, and especially many young Imbriotopoula who offered the Patriarch small bouquets of wild flowers of his homeland.

His All-Holiness will be present today, Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the opening of Nikos Kouki’s photography exhibition on the theme “Mount Athos. Life of the desert”, organised by the Holy Metropolis of Imvros and Tenedos in collaboration with the Holy Mount Athos Estia of Thessaloniki and with the support of the Imbrian Union of Macedonia – Thrace.

The exhibition hosted at the Cultural Center of Saints Theodores in Imvros presents photographic material from the 1994 trek of Nikos Koukis to Mikra Agia Anna, a hermitage (skete) that belongs to the monastery of Megisti Lavra and hosted figures of the Hagiorite asceticism, such as the melodious Gerasimos (Abimelech) Mikrayannanitis. The photographic lens, according to the organisers, captures moments from the religious and daily life of the monks, from the preparation of the feast of Saints, and from the journey of the pilgrims to their destination.

It is noted that the exhibition, which was curated by the director of the Holy Mount Athos Estia, Anastasios Douros, is included in the anniversary celebration program of the Metropolis of Imvros and Tenedos on the occasion of the completion of 250 years since the birth of Bartholomeos Koutloumousianos of Imvros (December 22, 1722).
