The City of Constantinople honoured the great Hellenist Mario Vitti

In the presence of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, on Wednesday, 31 May 2023, an event was held in memory of the Hellenist professor Mario Vitti, at the Sismanoglu Megaro.
At the event, which was organised by the Consulate General of Greece in Constantinople, the professors of Modern Greek Language and Literature, Stefanos Kaklamanis and Evripidis Garantoudis, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens , and Damla Demirözü, from Istanbul University (Istanbul Üniversitesi) spoke.
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the speakers, Hon. Education Coordinator Mr. Yiannis Gigurtsis, as well as the numerous participants, were welcomed by the Consul General, Ms. Georgina Soultanopoulou.
It is worth noting the numerous presence of young, Turkish citizens, who are taught the Greek language and literature in the Universities of Turkey.
Mario Vitti had been professor emeritus of Greek philology at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo, Italy, and one of Italy’s leading experts on the full spectrum of modern Greek literature.
Born in Constantinople, to a Greek mother and an Italian father, Mario Vitti was raised in the Greek Community of the city of Constantinople.
