The beginning of ‘Dekapentavgoustos’ in Smyrna
With the observance of the Divine Services prescribed by the Typikon of our Holy Church, the blessed period of Dekapentavgoustos began in Smyrna, in the only functioning Orthodox Church today, that of Saint Fotini, where, through the intercession of the Holy Protectors of the capital of Ionia, in the last years, Divine services have been held without fail following a regular programme.
His Eminence Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna, celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the morning of Sunday, July 31, while on the annual commemoration of the Holy Maccabean Children, their mother Solomonia and their teacher Eleazar, and the commemoration of the procession of the Holy and Life-giving Cross through Constantinopole, His Eminence officiated during the Holy Services, from the evening and the morning of August 1st. The first Paraklesis Supplication Canon to the Most Holy Theotokos was celebrated on the same evening under the patronage of the local Shepherd.
As it has been announced, throughout the entire period of Dekapentavgoustos, the Paraklesis Supplication Canons to the Blessed Virgin Mary will be celebrated in the Holy Church of Saint Fotini.
