The Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Zografou on Mt Athos, fell asleep in the Lord

On Monday, 27 January 2025, the Abbot of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Zografou on Mount Athos, Archimandrite Ambrosios Zografitis, fell asleep in the Lord.

The late Abbot was hospitalised in recent days in a hospital in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he took his last breath.

According to recent information, a funeral service will be held in Sofia and then the late Abbot will be transferred to the Zografou Monastery for the funeral service and burial in the Monastery of his repentance.

The late Abbot was born in 1939 and studied at the Theological School of Sofia. In 1981 he went to Mount Athos and settled in the Monastery of Zografou, where he was elected Abbot on 6 May 1997.
