Tasmania: Battle of Crete Celebrations in Hobart with His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis

With the Blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis visited Hobart in Tasmania and attended the Battle of Crete celebrations for 2022.

Proceedings commenced at the Hobart Cenotaph with a Trisagion service conducted by His Grace.

Following the service, His Grace laid a wreath on behalf of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and its Primate His Eminence Archbishop Makarios.

After the Cenotaph, a celebration was held at the Greek Hall where speeches were held, some cretan dancing and a light lunch was served.

Apart from His Grace Bishop Bartholomew,  the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency Honourable Barbara Baker was in attendance with her husband, the Attorney General of Tasmania the Hon. Elise Archer, the Colonel Ioannis Fasianos, Permanent Military Attaché of the Greek Embassy in Canberra, President of the Greek Community Nicholas Theodoropoulos and representatives of the Armed Forces of Australia.

His Grace conveyed the love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, a proud Cretan and spoke about the importance of reflecting on the efforts of those who fell in the Battle of Crete. In conclusion His Grace spoke about the visit of His Eminence to Tasmania in the next few weeks.
