Sydney: Saint Spyridon Parish’s Senior Citizens Group – a place of warmth and love

Every Thursday, from 10:00am until 12:00 midday, at the Parish of Saint Spyridon in Sydney, the respected Senior Citizen members of the parish gather, to enjoy the company of other peers, to exchange conversations and stories, to participate in the social program of the day and close the weekly gathering with a delicious hot meal.

The Senior Citizens Group is a loving offering of the Philoptochos Ladies’ Auxiliary of Saint Spyridon Parish and has been running continuously for the past 35 years, in the Hall below the church.

In these gatherings, the cooperation with the Greek Welfare Centre of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia facilitates an invaluable contribution that provides information, entertainment and cultural inspiration for our members.

The gathering on Thursday, 13 June 2024, as every week, was attended by the representative of the Greek Welfare Centre, the parishioner Mrs. Dimitra Micos, who a few days ago was honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her social and charitable contribution to the Orthodox Church and the Greek Community.

Saint Spyridon Parish Priest, Father Steven Scoutas, congratulated Mrs. Micos on behalf of the Parish and on behalf of the members of the Senior Citizens Group for her honorary distinction by the Australian Government and wished her always to be worthy in her valuable work.

The President of the Philoptochos Ladies’ Auxiliary, Mrs. Toula Kyriazopoulos, also expressed her congratulations to Mrs. Micos, offering her a beautiful bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Senior Citizens Group.

The members of the Senior Citizens Group invite the parishioners and friends of the Parish of Saint Spyridon who have not yet joined the group, to come without hesitation and expand the beautiful company of all who participate.
