Sydney: Albanese Government delivering $500,000 for St Spyridon Parish Hall Upgrade

On Tuesday, 15 April 2025, Federal Member for Kingsford Smith, Matt Thistlethwaite announced that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver $500,000 to support a comprehensive upgrade of the St Spyridon Parish Hall.

The announcement was made during Mr. Thistlethwaite’s visit to the Parish and his meeting with the clergy of Saint Spyridon, Fr. Steven Scoutas and Fr. Stavros Ivanos, and with the President Mr. Elia Economou.

This election commitment will support extensive renovations including structural improvements, modernised facilities, and enhanced community spaces that will benefit the thriving Greek Orthodox community across Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

The Albanese Government states it has consistently supported cultural institutions that preserve and celebrate Greek heritage throughout the region, recognising the profound contribution of Greek Australians to our nation’s multicultural identity.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

“St Spyridon has been the heart of the Greek community in Sydney’s East for generations, hosting everything from language schools to cultural celebrations, said Mr. Matt Thistlethwaite.

“This $500,000 investment ensures this vital community hub can continue serving families for decades to come.”

Mr Thistlethwaite also stated that “Our Greek community has helped shape the character and vibrancy of our local area, and only a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will continue delivering the support these important cultural institutions deserve.”
