Sunday of Orthodoxy and Doxology for Greek Independence Day in Stockholm

On the first Sunday of Lent, 24 March 2024, His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia presided over the Divine Liturgy at Saint George’s Cathedral in Stockholm, accompanied by Archimandrite Bartholomew Iatridis and Deacon George Arvanitidis.

According to the tradition of the Orthodox Church, prior to the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, a procession of holy icons took place in the Cathedral, led by the chanters, accompanied by numerous children, and joined by the Ambassadors of Greece and Cyprus, Aikaterini Fountoulaki and Solon Savva, respectively.

In conclusion, a memorial service was conducted for the victims of the terrorist attack at the concert venue in Moscow. Metropolitan Cleopas addressed the gathering, reflecting on the manifold significance of the day, encompassing both the National Anniversary and the religious feast of the Sunday of Orthodoxy and the feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos.

His Eminence extended congratulations to all attendees, particularly praising the children for their active participation and traditional attire, which embody the spirit and essence of the celebrations. Additionally, he offered well-wishes for the remainder of the Holy and Great Lent.
