Solemn celebration of the 86th birthday of Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw

On Monday morning, 15 April 2024, a special service took place at the chapel of Archangel Michael to commemorate the 86th birthday of Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and all Poland. Leading the service was the Archbishop of Wrocław and Szczecin, with Metropolitan Sawa offering prayers from the altar.

During the service, gratitude was expressed for the years of the metropolitan’s life, alongside prayers for continued health, strength, and blessings for the years ahead, as he continues his fruitful service to the Orthodox Church.

In his remarks, the Archbishop conveyed well-wishes on behalf of all attendees and those unable to be present, drawing inspiration from the Gospel passage on the healing of ten lepers. He praised Metropolitan Sawa’s unwavering dedication to the Church, describing him as a beacon of faith whose experiences have often served as sources of inspiration and protection.

Acknowledging the metropolitan’s tireless service and sacrificial dedication to the Church, the Archbishop emphasised his pivotal role in guiding and inspiring future generations of clergy. He expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Orthodox community in Poland, recognising Metropolitan Sawa as a steadfast leader whose commitment to the Church’s well-being is unwavering.

In his own reflections, Metropolitan Sawa expressed gratitude to God for the gift of a long life and the meaningful encounters he has experienced. He recalled pivotal moments, including collaborations with former Church leaders and the inspiring journey towards the independence of the Orthodox Church in Poland, led by Metropolitan Dionysius.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Church’s independence, the Orders of St. Mary Magdalene were bestowed upon clergy and employees of the Metropolitan Chancellery and the Warsaw Orthodox Metropolis, recognising their daily dedication and contributions to the Church’s mission.
