Services on the occasion of feast day of martyred Metropolitan Evgenios of Aghialos on Ithaca
A Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Dorotheos of Syros, was held on Sunday at the Katholicos, or main cathedral, of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Katharon, on the Ionian Island of Ithaca, Greece.
The resident Metropolitan of Lefkada and Ithaca, His Eminence Theofilos, co-officiated, on the occasion of the feast day of Metropolitan Evgenios of Aghialos, who was declared a national martyr by the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece last July.
The April 10 feast day marks the anniversary of the Metropolitan’s hanging by the Ottoman Turks on Easter Sunday in 1821.
