Saint Nicholas declared patron saint of Transylvanian city of Huedin

Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker was proclaimed the patron saint of Huedin, a city in Transylvania, at a ceremony held last week at the local cathedral.

Following the solemn Divine Liturgy for Saint Nicholas’ feast on December 6, the dean of Huedin, Rev. Father Dan Luputan, read out the decree by which His Eminence Metropolitan Andrei of Cluj approved declaring Saint Nicholas as patron saint and spiritual protector of the city of Huedin.

Mayor Mircea Morosan of Huedin attended the ceremony and read the resolution of the local council designating Saint Nicholas as the city’s patron saint. The local council endorsed the Huedin deanery-initiated initiative by a unanimous vote.

The dean of Huedin bestowed upon the dean of Turda a commemorative diploma signifying one hundred years since the election of the priest-martyr Aurel Munteanu as dean of Huedin in recognition of their mutual support.

An icon of Saint Nicholas of Myra, the recently proclaimed spiritual protector of Huedin, was presented to Mayor Mircea Morosan.

Commencing in 1931, the construction of the Huedin Orthodox Cathedral reached its peak with the consecration ceremony on October 14, 1934. Restoration activities are conducted on the exterior of the cathedral.
