Record daily dose number as younger Australians go for AstraZeneca

Younger Australians have shown a stronger interest in getting the AstraZeneca vaccine in the days since Prime Minister Scott Morrison made a controversial move to make it easier for them to see their doctor amid a backlash from some states against the idea.

Australia recorded its highest daily number of vaccinations on Thursday, with 161,390 doses administered, to take the total to 7.8 million doses of AstraZeneca and Pfizer delivered in five months.

A combined 6034 people under the age of 40 got first and second doses of the AstraZeneca jab on Tuesday and Wednesday – more than the combined 4471 on the previous Tuesday and Wednesday.
