Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visits Daphni Monastery, the most important monument of the middle Byzantine period in Attica

On Thursday, 9 May 2024, The Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Daphni Monastery, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is considered the most important monument of the middle Byzantine period in Attica, Greece.

The Prime Minister was informed by the Minister of Culture Ms. Lina Mendoni and officials of the Ephorate of Antiquities about the restoration and maintenance projects that have been carried out, funded by the Regional Development Corporate Agreement (ΕΣΠΑ), as well as about the planning for new projects.

In addition, Prime Minister Mitsotakis was informed about the progress of the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation of the Ministries of Culture and Climate Crisis and Civil Protection – to which the Daphni Monastery has joined – with the aim of shielding archaeological sites against natural hazards, mainly fire, and threats related to the effects of climate change, as well as the review and strengthening of civil protection plans.
