Preveza to receive His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

The Holy Metropolis of Nikopolis and Preveza, a faithful child of the Mother Church, and the Municipality of Preveza, will receive for a second time, after a period of around three decades, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, over two days, 27 and 28 July 2024.

His All-Holiness graciously accepted the invitation which was submitted jointly during a visit to the headquarters of the Constantinople Church last December by His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Nikopolis and Preveza, and the Mayor of Preveza, Mr. Nikolaos Georgakos, expressing the respect, love and devotion of both themselves and the entire people of Preveza to the Patriarch of the Nation and the Ecumenical Throne.

The programme of the visit is as follows:

Thursday 27-06-2024

10:30: Arrival of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen of Preveza. Official Reception.

10:45: Official Doxology. Awarding of the highest honorary distinction of the Holy Metropolis of Nikopolis and Preveza – the “Medal – Cross of the Apostle Paul” to His All- Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

19:00: In the square of the Holy Church of Saint Nektarios of Preveza. Naming of the square with the title: “Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I’s Square”. planting of olive-tree seedlings by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

19:30: At the Ancient Theater of Nikopolis. Musical event in honour of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew performed by the choirs of the city of Preveza. Address by the Mayor of Preveza, Mr. Nikolaos Georgakos, and presentation of a gift to His All-Holiness with an address in response by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

Friday 28-06-2024

10:00 – 11:15: Patriarchal visits and guided tour of the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis, the Early Christian Basilica I (of Dometius) and the Early Christian Basilica II (of Alkison).

11:30: Patriarchal visit to the Holy Monastery of Prophet Elijah, Eliovouno (Flamboura).

12:15: Patriarchal visit and guided tour of the Environmental Interpretation & Interactive Digital Information Centre in Vathy, Preveza.

18:30: At the Holy Monastery of the Holy Apostles in Lithari. Inauguration of the recently built Holy Shrine of the Apostle Paul at the place of his preaching in ancient Nikopolis as well as the landscaped courtyard of the Holy Monastery. Celebration of the Patriarchal Great Vespers in memory of The Holy Glorious and All-Praised Leaders of the Apostles, Peter and Paul.
