Phanar: Two new Auxiliary Bishops were elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate
The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened yesterday, 10 January 2025, under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Synod reviewed all matters on its agenda and reached the appropriate decisions.
During yesterday’s session, at the proposal of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and in response to a formal request by His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph of Buenos Aires, the Holy and Sacred Synod conducted canonical elections in the Patriarchal Church of Saint George at the Phanar. By unanimous decision, two auxiliary bishops were elected to serve the pastoral needs of the faithful in Brazil.
The elected bishops are:
- Archimandrite Irenaeus Tamaninis, under the title of the historic Diocese of Tropaeum.
- Archimandrite Agathangelos Karkangelis, under the title of the historic Diocese of Zela.
